| Instructor Profile: | Heather became a Tai Chi instructor in 1999, while living in England. She was a lead instructor at the Kwong Tam Merseyside School of Tai Chi, which was licensed by the British Council of Chinese Martial Arts, before establishing her own studio. She was a National Speaker for the Society of Women's Clubs in England on the Health Benefits of Tai Chi. In 2003, Heather moved with her family to Minnesota and became interested in teaching the Tai Chi for Health programs of Dr. Paul Lam. She received her teaching certification in Tai Chi for Arthritis (2006), was a Scholarship recipient to the 2008 Tai Chi for Health Conference in Massachusetts, and became certified in Tai Chi for Diabetes (2009) at Normandale Community College from Master Trainer Dr. Russ Smiley. Heather is also an ACE Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Yoga Instructor, and Advanced Reiki Practitioner. Heather's main goal has been to bring the healing benefits of Tai Chi to as many people as possible: Currently, she teaches 10 Tai Chi classes a week throughout the Twin Cities and has organized two TCA Teacher Certification Workshops. She volunteers for the Arthritis Foundation as a speaker on Exercise and Arthritis and has been the TCA representative at the Junior Arthritis March and the Annual Twin Cities Arthritis Walk. Heather also presented part of the TCA form in the Breast Cancer Survivor's Fitness Workout DVD, which was funded by the Susan G. Komen Foundation. For the past 12 months Heather has instigated a two-center trial of the TCA program in the Twin Cities YMCA system. Upon a successful conclusion to this pilot program the common goal for all parties is to adopt the program and make it available throughout the 26 Twin Cities YMCA facilities. She is pursuing a Master's Degree in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture and is the creator of Shui Gong TM, a health-enhancing Tai Chi/Qigong Water Exercise program that is being piloted at the Marsh in Minnetonka, MN. Heather has recently worked with a large media company assisting with their filming of library content for T’ai Chi materials, which will be used to formulate a diverse selection of media options for commercial sales to the public. |
